Qualitative determination of carotenes in Matilda variety pumpkin using spectrophotometry and thin layer chromatography

Abstract

In this work, using spectrophotometry and thin-layer chromatography, it was established that the domestic pumpkin variety “Matilda” contains such carotenes as: β-carotene, α-carotene and lycopene. It was determined that α-carotene is present only in the pulp and is absent in the peel. It was shown that of the two proposed solvent systems, the best separation is achieved by the system: diethyl ether–petroleum ether (3:1). DOI: 10.33184/bulletin-bsu-2024.3.8
