Parallel implementation of watershed segmentation

Abstract

 The problem of parallel implementation of watershed segmentation (WS) is considered in this paper. Known approaches to solve the task are given and their problems are discussed. New approach is proposed, based on tiling of image and independent parallel processing of resulting tiles. Merging procedure for found segments is applied to meet segmentation criterion. All necessary procedures are described as pseudocode. Results of experiment are given, providing information on speedup gained using proposed approach.
